Origin Story

When her oldest son, who suffers from Tourette Disorder and ADD, wanted to find his first summer job at age 15, founder Sheila S. Jordan observed and fretted about the process and the way her son was often treated by uninformed and ill-trained supervisors.

She was inspired to develop a new way for individuals living with Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities (IDD) to apply for jobs, and to educate employers about the benefits of Neurodiversity in the workplace.

Launched as a simple website in May 2021 to determine "proof of concept," the job board immediately began to gather momentum and the founder was inundated with email inquiries from employers and job seekers alike.

The job board formally launched in January 2022, and continues to fulfill its mission to connect Neurodivergent, autistic and disabled job seekers with inclusive employers worldwide.

Disability disclosure, one of the most complicated and stress-inducing processes for both job seekers and hiring managers, is inherent in workability's mission: job seekers know that employers posting jobs on www.workability.one are neurodivergent-friendly, and employers who review resumes sourced from www.workability.one know that their applicants are highly qualified professionals living with Neurodiversity, autism or disability.

www.workability.one is owned and operated by workability LLC, a certified woman- and minority-owned Emerging Small Business (ESB) based in beautiful Central Oregon. (COBID #13519).

Team members can be found exhibiting at community service provider resource fairs in the Pacific Northwest, as well as participating in autism employment conferences across the United States.
